QDROP Gen2 — the manual that travels with the program
======================================================
Plain words. Free program, from 777 Software.

WHAT QDROP GEN2 IS
------------------
QDROP Gen2 drops words and files straight from your computer to a
friend's computer. No servers, no accounts, no sign-up. Everything
you send is sealed on your computer and only your friend can open
it. Nothing passes through anyone else's computer.

WHAT YOU NEED — THE WHOLE LIST
------------------------------
1. This program, on your computer.
2. This program, on your friend's computer.
3. A way to swap codes — a message, an email, a phone call.

That is all. There is NO extra program to install.

ABOUT TAILSCALE — READ THIS IF AN OLDER PAGE MENTIONED IT
---------------------------------------------------------
Older QDROP writing talked about Tailscale as if you had to have
it. For QDROP Gen2 that is not true.

Gen2 finds its own way between two homes. It tries, in order:
  1. your home network, if you are in the same house;
  2. a door your own router can open for it;
  3. a public door, if your computer has one;
  4. knocking from both sides at once, so the two computers meet;
  5. the knock network — a post-box that holds a knock until your
     friend next opens QDROP;
  6. as the very last door, a door number opened on a router —
     QDROP will tell you in plain words if it ever comes to that.

Tailscale is ONE optional road among several: if both computers
already have it, QDROP can travel over it like any home network.
It is never required, and QDROP works house-to-house without it.

YOUR CARD
---------
The first time QDROP opens, type the name you want friends to see
and press "Make my card". Your card lives only on this computer.

On YOUR CARD you will see:
  * Your name — friends see it. Mistyped it? Type the right name in
    the "Change my name" box on your card and press the button
    twice (the second press is the program making sure). Only the
    name changes.
  * Your Q-Number — your number. Friends see it next to your name.
    You never type it anywhere; your code is what you swap.
  * Card fingerprint — a long proof code made from your card. You
    never type it. It is there for help to read.
  * Your door number — where friends knock. Leave it as it is
    unless help tells you to change it. Changing it means friends
    holding codes with the old number may not reach you until you
    swap fresh codes.
  * Support check code — a short code. If help ever asks, read it
    to them. It is safe to read out; it cannot open anything.

SWAPPING CODES — THE THREE STEPS
--------------------------------
  1. Give a friend your code. (Press "Copy my code", then paste it
     to them in a message or email.)
  2. Paste their code back. (Into ADD A FRIEND, then press
     "Add their code".)
  3. Pick their name and send.

One swap is enough to become friends — you do not both need to do
both halves. A code works once, for one friend, and lives for a
day. "Fresh code" makes a new one; codes already given out keep
working until used or the day passes. "Cancel unused codes" kills
every unused code you have given out and makes a fresh one —
friends you already have stay friends.

WHEN SOMEONE USES YOUR CODE
---------------------------
QDROP makes you friends automatically — there is no Accept button
for codes. Their name appears in YOUR FRIENDS. Only give your code
to people you want as friends. (House asks are different: those
you accept yourself, with "Accept the picked ask".)

SENDING
-------
Click a friend in YOUR FRIENDS. Type words and press "Send words",
or press "Send a file…" and pick a file. "Delivered" means your
friend's computer took it and checked it — for files, every byte
checks out. What a friend sends you lands in your downloads
folder; press "Open downloads folder" in TRANSFERS to see it, and
a line at the top of the window tells you when something arrives.

THE OUTBOX
----------
If a friend can't be reached, what you sent waits in the OUTBOX on
your computer and goes on its own when they're back. Items are
kept for 3 days. "Try again now" tries at once. "Remove from list"
takes an item off the list only — it deletes nothing; a file you
were sending stays exactly where it was.

CLOSING AND REOPENING
---------------------
Close QDROP whenever you like. Your card, friends and saved
connections are kept on this computer, so reopening needs no new
codes. A half-sent file is kept safely and picks up where it left
off; a half-arrived file is never shown to you as finished.

IF IT CAN'T REACH YOUR FRIEND
-----------------------------
1. Both of you open QDROP and swap fresh codes while you're both
   looking at it.
2. Read YOUR DOORS — it tells you in plain words who can reach you.
3. Give the knock network a little time.
4. If help asks, read them your support check code.
Nothing is wrong with your computer.

HELP INSIDE THE PROGRAM
-----------------------
The Help menu at the top of the window answers each of these
questions inside the program, one topic at a time.
