READ ME FIRST — PHOSPHOR RAIN for Windows ========================================== This file IS the screensaver — there is nothing to double-click. Right-click PhosphorRain.scr and choose Install (on Windows 11 it may hide under "Show more options" first). The full plain-words guide follows — it is the same help that ships with the Linux package and lives under the Help button in the Settings window. The Settings window has a language selector (the globe button): English, Español, Deutsch — the Help text follows your choice. HOW TO USE THIS SCREENSAVER — in plain words 1) HOW TO TURN IT ON Windows: This file IS the screensaver — there is nothing to double-click. Right-click PhosphorRain.scr and choose Install (on Windows 11 it may hide under "Show more options" first). Windows then opens Screen Saver Settings with Phosphor Rain picked. Then set 'Wait' to the minutes you like — try 5 — and click OK. You are done when that window closes: leave your computer alone for those minutes and the rain will start by itself. Linux: On most Linux desktops today there is no screensaver switch to point — so on Linux, Phosphor Rain is a rain window you start yourself: double-click it (or run ./PhosphorRain) whenever you want the rain, and press any key to stop it; if you use xscreensaver, the line in INSTALL.txt makes it start on its own. 2) HOW TO SEE IT FIRST (PREVIEW) Want to see it first? In that same Screen Saver Settings window, click Preview — the rain fills your screen, and moving the mouse brings you straight back. 3) HOW TO CHANGE THE RAIN Windows: click the Settings button in Screen Saver Settings. Linux: run ./PhosphorRain --settings Rain density — slide left for a few quiet streams, right for a heavy downpour. You will see the change the next time the rain starts. Fall speed — slide left for slow, drifting rain, right for fast rain. You will see the change the next time the rain starts. Clicking Save always tells you whether your settings were saved. 4) HOW TO TELL IT IS ON (WINDOWS) Open Screen Saver Settings again and look at the name in the drop- down list: if it says Phosphor Rain and Wait shows your minutes, it is on. Or just leave the computer alone for those minutes and watch the rain start by itself. 5) HOW TO REMOVE IT — nothing else was ever installed Windows: open Screen Saver Settings, pick (None), click OK, then delete the PhosphorRain.scr file you downloaded (and the PhosphorRain.exe too, if you downloaded it). Its settings file lives in the folder 777Software\PhosphorRain inside your AppData\Local folder — you may delete that folder too. Linux: delete the PhosphorRain file and the phosphor-rain folder in ~/.config — nothing else was ever installed. If you copied it to ~/.local/share/phosphor-rain, delete that folder too. There is no entry in Programs & Features, because there was never an installer — deleting those files removes it completely. 6) IF IT DOES NOT APPEAR If Phosphor Rain is not in the Screen Saver Settings list, right-click a fresh copy of PhosphorRain.scr and choose Install. If Preview shows a blank screen, run the PhosphorRain.exe once to see the rain, then try Preview again. 7) .scr OR .exe — WHICH ONE? The .exe only shows you the rain while it is running — it does not become your screensaver and will not start by itself. If you want it on your idle screen, use the .scr file instead. 8) HOW TO GET OUT OF THE RUNNING SCREENSAVER Move the mouse or press any key to go back to your computer. ABOUT THE LONG CODE ON THE DOWNLOAD PAGE The long code under each download is its fingerprint, for experts who want to prove the file is untouched — you do not need it to install or use the screensaver, you can safely ignore it. 777 Software · FREE forever.
